Kangan Institute's Automotive Centre of Excellence (ACE)

Docklands is also home to Kangan Institute's Automotive Centre of Excellence, Victoria’s largest automotive training institution.

Open Channel

Open Channel at Victoria Harbour is a not-for-profit business that offers a wide variety of support to aspiring and emerging filmmakers with facilities for hire, training courses and production assistance. For more information, visit www.openchannel.org.au

Carrick Institute of Education

Carrick Institute of Education has moved around 1600 students and staff from its vocational, higher education and English language departments into a new campus at 370 Docklands Drive.

Carrick is a private registered training organisation which delivers quality education and training to 8,000 international and domestic students, with offices in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide and China. For more information, visit www.carrickeducation.edu.au.

Australian Film, Television and Radio School

The Australian Film, Television and Radio School also conducts advanced, industry-based courses for professionals from Digital Harbour's Innovation Building. For more information, visit www.aftrs.edu.au.

Quay Initiatives

An important space on Central Pier is being refurbished into a community hall that will be occupied by Quay Initiatives, a not-for-profit organisation that focuses on health, education and self-awareness. The space will introduce fitness programs, lifestyle schooling, seminars and other community events and programs. For more information, visit www.centralpier.com.au.

CAE

Community Services

People living and working in Docklands can access a growing number of the City of Melbourne's community services, including

Community Space

The Hub @ Docklands is available for community use. If there is a new skill you would like to learn, if you would like to join or start a discussion group or need a space for a one-off event, The Hub could be the place for you. Alternatively, your community group may be looking for a place to meet or you are a community tutor seeking space for classes. The Hub has a variety of rooms available on weekdays and weekends.

Future Development

VicUrban is working to provide a range of community and education opportunities within Melbourne Docklands.

Development already underway includes Stage 2 of the Kangan Institute's Automotive Centre of Excellence (ACE) campus. Once complete, the ACE campus will consolidate all of Kangan Institute's automotive training facilities on one site which, together with new state-of-the-art technology and equipment, will ensure it is a unique centre of automotive learning, research and development.

Future plans also include the development of further education and community facilities on the triangle site adjacent to the Kangan Institute's ACE campus. A key feature of this future development will be the level of community access available to the facility. This site has been temporarily landscaped until such time as development is ready to commence.

Collectively the development of these facilities supports the Docklands community by providing opportunities for continued lifelong learning, education and training.

VicUrban is also investigating the viability of having a primary school located in Docklands, as part of the Community Infrastructure Plan.
